PAEDIATRIC FAMILY LOUNGE NAMED

A donation will be acknowledged when two organizations have collaborated to name the Paediatric Family Waiting Lounge on the third floor of Windsor Regional Hospital, Met Campus.

Representatives from In Honour of the Ones We Love and Motor City Community Credit Union will unveil a commemorative sign to recognize a $30,000 donation to Paediatric Outpatient Services on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. on 3 North, Met Campus, Windsor Regional Hospital, 1995 Lens Avenue.

Motor City Community Credit Union has 4 locations throughout Windsor and Essex County providing full financial services to members including savings, chequing, commercial, loans and lines of credit and investments. Each branch is proud of their community support under the MCCCU banner – We See What You See. Although their support is unlimited, they have established a collaborative partnership with In Honour of the Ones We Love becoming a sponsor of events such as the annual gala, dancing under the stars and an annual golf tournament.

In Honour of the Ones We Love is an organization made up of volunteers who work together to assist the needs of all ages in Windsor and Essex County who are afflicted with cancer. Their goal is to assist patients and their families from the moment of diagnosis to treatment. They have made a commitment to support Paediatric Outpatient Services that include Day Surgery, Medical Day Care and the Paediatric Oncology Satellite Unit.

Sunday, September 7th 2008, In Honour of the Ones We Love hosted their 3rd Annual Dancing Under the Stars Event with great success! This year the event was held and run slight differently than past years, with a 1 day event held at Ciociaro Club of Windsor. Together, between the hard work of the dancers pledges, donations for votes, tickets sales and various donations, In Honour raised a grand total of $25,600.00 for the children in our community suffering from life threatening diseases. On behalf of Motor City Community Credit Union, thank you to everyone who supports this wonderful cause.

EK Boys Golf Tournament

Another year has passed for the Essex Kent Boys Golf Tournament, which has been around since 1929. This 3 day tournament free & open to both boys & girls was a great success, with 3 beautiful days of weather and great golf. MCCCU is proud to had been the prime sponsor for yet, another year. Congratulations to all the golfers who showed up and played their best. This tournament is filled with talented young golfers who just might be the next Tiger's out there! A special congrats to this years Champion, Quinn Vilneff! See you all out there next year!

Junior Golf Academy Golf Tournament

On Friday June 13th, the Junior Golf Academy hosted it's 1st Annual Golf Tournament and a success it was! The students of the golf academy lended a hand volunteering and also got to get out and golf, putting their recent practice and training to work! The event offered golfers a putt contest, sponsored by MCCCU & a mass variety of door prizes and silent auction items. Thank You to everyone who golfed, and waited out the rain, and of course to everyone who supported this fantastic event and very worth while cause.

Another successful year for MCCCU and we'd like to personally thank all of our members, staff & guests who attended this years meeting. These AGM's are hosted for our members, to get a full review of the years progress and most importantly, for our members to be heard! This was also an election year, were two board members were elected by you, our member-owners. We hope that all and any questions, concerns, or suggestions were presented and addressed.

Heart & Stroke Foundation's Big Bike Race

Once again, Motor City Community Credit Union sponsored the Heart & Stroke Foundations Big Bike Ride. On Monday, June 2nd the MCCCU staff got ridin' on the 30 person bike and what a great way to get staff and members together and enjoy a beautiful afternoon with all proceeds donated to the charity. The ride takes place twice a year and is great fun for everyone! Together, MCCCU raised just over $1,200.00 to help and support those suffering across Canada from Heart & or Stroke Disease.

The ride is a great time, the organizers are fantasitc and the foundation is very worthy. Give your support and ride the next Big Bike event!

Beginning June 16th, 2008 Greg Mailloux & Vin Heney will bike coast to coast from Vancouver to St. John's support and raising funds for Crohn's Disease and Colitis. This disease affects over 170,000 people in Canada alone. There is no known cure and they have yet to find the root of this painful life changing illess.

MCCCU proudly supports this very worthy cause and these two strong men for their efforts. Good luck fellas!

Locks for Logan

The "Locks for Logan" Fundraising Campaign was a great success! This wonderful & heartfelt operation was in support of a 5 year old Windsor boy named Logan Moore, who suffers from a rare form of Leukemia and is currently undergoing treatment.

Jay Cannon had been growing his hair for 2 years in support of the Cancer Cause. On April 29th, 2008... it was time for it to go! Donations of any sort were being provided to support the event and cause, and ultimately, young Logan. In the end, a total of $27,000 were raised with this event, with $6450.00 of that funding coming from the members, staff, family & friends of Motor City Community Credit Union. We thank you for you continued support and efforts. Together, Windsor & Essex County continue to stand strong and fight for eachother & our cause.

Cancer Centre Bowlathon:

The Motor City staff rallied together and supported this years 12th Annual Bowlero Cancer Centre Bowlathon. With a couple teams, good hearts and strong pledges, the MCCCU bowlers headed out on February 23rd to support this very worthy cause. The event turned out to be a blast and we’d like to personally thank everyone for their support. It’s events like these that keep those in need strong and hopeful. Thanks Again, see you next year!

As many of you know, Motor City hosted BBQ fundraisers throughout the summer to support our local charities. We kept the good times Rollin’ into the fall and winter months with several Fundraiser Luncheons held at all 4 branch locations. From chili to stew, all the way to baked goods, the staff at MCCCU made these benefits possible by preparing these delicious goods. Motor City would like to send a special thanks to all of our members who attended and supported our luncheons. Again, you’ve shown just how much our community supports one another and have helped change the lives of those in need. Callaway In School Golf Program

MCCCU has also ‘tied the knot’ with the Callaway Golf in Schools Program, a grass roots initiative that will see golf incorporated into the elementary school curriculum throughout the province of Ontario for the first time. Motor City sponsors Our Lady of Perpetual Help elementary school, aiding our youth in incorporating life-skills and values such as honesty, fair play, and respect, and applying lessons that not only aid in achieving everyday success, but also form the foundation of the spirit of golf. Big Brothers & Sisters Bowlathon

The Annual Big Brothers & Sisters Bowlathon Fundraiser was a huge success this year as usual. Motor City was a proud sponsor of this event and had a great time participating. As a team, MCCCU raised a grand total of $4238.50 putting us as the top pledging team for Saturday's Bowling! Way to Go! Big Brothers & Sisters brough home a total of $50,000 for the entire campaign. Many children in our community will benefit from these funds.

I would like to thank MCCCU staff, members and our community for their hard work and efforts in raising money for this very worthy cause. I would like to send a special thanks to Mike Powis (commercial loans manager) with a donation of $1305.00, Kathy Moore (member service representative at Market Square) with her donation of over $500.00 and Brandy Johnson (Assistant Branch Manager of Tecumseh West Branch) who donated her 50/50 draw winnings back to the charity.

Again, thank you everyone for your hard work and support. The event was not only a success in donations, but an extremely fun day of bowling!

W.E Care For Kids

Motor City Communit Credit Union is pleased to announce the proud sponsorship of the Windsor Essex Care for Kids Foundation, yet again!

W.E Care For Kids is a local fundraising campaign in support of Paediatric Programs at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital, Leamington District Memorial Hospital and Windsor Regional Hospital. The funds raised by this campaign are used to support local paediatric care programmes and to enable us to treat our children within our own community. Having a child that is ill is devastating. Having to leave your community for treatment in another city, without family and friends for support, is tragic.

Please work with us to support W.E Care For Kids to keep our children at home. MCCCU will be selling raffle tickets within our branches to support this precious cause. Last year Motor City donated $12,000 to support the children in our community. Help us to exceed our 2006 donation and continue to keep our kids where they belong.

MCCCU Spearheads Fundraising Initiative!

After Firefighter George Copeland’s unfortunate accident last week, the community has come together to offer support to our local hero. Motor City Community Credit Union immediately offered to host a trust account for George Copeland and his family. And MCCCU continues to lead the fundraising efforts, by making an exceptional donation to the trust fund.

This Monday at 11 am at Firehall # 1, 815 Goyeau Street in Windsor, Motor City Community Credit Union will donate a substantial sum to the George Copeland and Family Trust Fund, which is administered by the Windsor Professional Firefighter’s Association. The donation is one of the many ways that the credit union gives back to the Windsor and surrounding area.

The Mayor of Windsor, Eddie Francis, and Fire Department Chief Dave Fields will be on hand to lend support to the fundraising initiative.

The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.

This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

MCCCU sponsors Football Camp!

On October 28th, Motor City Community Credit Union & The Bethlehem Fellowship teamed up for an exciting day of Football Fundamentals. This one day football camp was hosted by former Detroit Lion Lomas Brown and his former Lions teammates Herman Moore & Larry Tharpe. Approximately 50 enthusiastic and energetic boys attended this fantastic function where they learned the fundamentals & teamwork skills of football. Each child left with an autographed pictured of each player, a photo of themselves along side the football champs and a souvenir bag to remember the day! A big thanks to The Bethlehem Fellowship for stepping up and organizing such a memorable and exciting day for the kids!

Spitfires Game

We had a lot of fun last night at the Spitfires game. The students from Prince Edward Public School cheered really loud and a few even made signs for the favourite Spits players. Before the game started, MCCCU Marketing Manager Mike Quinlan presented a cheque to Prince Edward Vice Principal Mark Campbell. Thank you again to everyone who made this night possible, including the numerous chaperones who accompanied the students to the game.

Adopt-a-School lunch at Prince Edward

Today, in conjunction with Credit Union Day, we hosted a pizza lunch for 40 lucky students at Prince Edward Public School, the school we adopted through the Windsor Spitfires adopt-a-school program. We were fortunate enough to have Spitfires defenseman Chris Purves join us for lunch and sign autographs for the students. Randy Dupuis, CEO of MCCCU, was on hand to present a plaque to Mark Campbell, Vice Principal of Prince Edward. The students who attended the lunch will also be attending the Spitfires game tonight against the Plymouth Whalers, where a cheque will be presented from MCCCU to Prince Edward Public School. Thank you to Rob Gagnon of the Windsor Spitfires and Mark Campbell of Prince Edward Public School for making this possible. And a big thank you to Chris Purves for joining us for lunch.

Dancing Under the Stars!

What a great event! On September 15th and 16th, MCCCU sponsored Dancing Under The Stars, an exciting dance contest featuring local business personalities. It was patterened after ABC's Dancing With The Stars and raised approximately $5000 for In Honour of the Ones We Love, a Windsor charity that raises money to benefit local cancer patients and corresponding services at Windsor Regional Hospital. A few weeks ago CBC published an article that states there are 74 million credit cards in Canada or three for every Canadian over the age of 18. With all these credit cards being used, we wanted to pass along these tips from Mastercard on how to use your credit card responsibly:

Do...

pay your credit card regularly. Some people think carrying a balance month-to-month is fine. Its not. Your monthly due date is a deadline. Pay your entire bill, or everything you can afford, each month just like you would your rent.

pay your bill near the end of your grace period, i.e. the time between your purchase date and the date that interest begins to build, (but always err on the side of getting your payment in on time). This is the equivalent of a free short-term loan. Check the terms of your credit card, but as a rule of thumb, paying on or just before your due date will likely allow you to enjoy the free loan without incurring interest charges.

contact your card issuer if you have problems. For example, if your bill is delivered late or you know you will be unable to pay your bill on time, contact them to make payment arrangements. Look on your bill for details on how to contact your issuer for questions or problems.

consider a credit card with a low interest rate (APR) if you plan on carrying a balance each month. And be sure to learn the impact of compounding interest - the amount you're charged in interest on top of purchase and interest charges unpaid in previous months.

Don't...

use your credit card like a second paycheque. And, do not purchase goods beyond your means.

put off paying your bill if you're near or past your due date. Payments are processed for the day they are received, not the day they are mailed. If you pay by mail, give your payment as many as five business days to arrive. And, never send cash.

be ashamed to make payment arrangements if you have financial difficulties. The longer you ignore your bills the worse they get. Call your card issuer to arrange a payment plan, or if your case is severe visit a credit counselor.

underestimate the negative impact of late payments. Most issuers calculate interest daily, so the longer you wait the more you pay. Late payments can also lead to late fees, higher interest, and a black mark on your credit history.
